When my art students were all home, quarantined due to the Coronavirus.  I started working with them online, creating lessons that they could do at home without much guidance or many art materials.  The first assignment I gave them was an art packet that explores the elements of art and principles of design. with several pages of easy assignments. I have placed that packet in this post hoping that you will find it useful.

While this lesson was intended for middle school age children, it will work well with both younger and older students. As they work through the packet, they will improve their understanding of how to use the various elements of art to make better compositions and develop an appreciation for the visual language of art. Students will will work with shading techniques, texture, color, and value.  The packet is fun and easy to follow and should take about 45 minutes to 2 hours per page.
What you will find in this packet:

1. All assignments can be done with a variety of materials.  Whatever you have at home will work.

2. All assignments are appropriate for middle school students, but they will also work well with older and younger students.

3. All assignments have complete directions.

4. I am also attaching a sheet with the elements of art and principles of design definitions.

Here are some examples of actual student artwork.  I apologize for the photography.  My students are working from home and sending me photos of their artwork.

Thank you so much! I’m a new homeschool teacher. It has become extremely costly, so having a free package is a blessing. Thanks again!
