Hi, I'm Bruce Black, an abstract watercolor artist and art teacher. I have been painting and drawing all my life and spent most of my adult life as an art educator - twenty-five years of teaching art, and I am still at it!
Having grown up in Arizona and explored the southwest throughout my life, the light and colors of the desert and mountains are a big part of my abstract watercolor paintings. The landscape has always informed my work, both realistic and abstract. I have also, more recently, become interested in calligraphy and marks associated with old texts and manuscripts. Those beautiful characters have an abstract quality beyond their more specific phonic association. Using this idea of marks and calligraphy, I have built a series of abstract paintings using watercolor and other water-based media on paper. It is the combination of the Arizona landscape and my fascination with old manuscripts that make this abstract series so enticing and motivating for me. I really have no idea where it is going to lead and am excited to be in the studio simply exploring.
I paint my abstractions with the highest-grade archival materials, and It is my hope that you will pass these paintings on from one generation to the next, inspiring peace and introspection in all who observe them. Please let me know how I can help you find the perfect artwork for you!
