Bruce Black, An Arizona artist
It is with a truly grateful heart that I welcome you to my website, Bruce Black Art.
As an Arizona artist, the colors and beauty of the southwest are infused in my paintings. The Arizona landscape, sky, desert, and mountain regions inform my paintings in terms of texture and coloration. I am attracted to the outdoors and nature and find it to be an inexhaustible muse for painting. While Phoenix is a bustling big city, it is still easy to get out into nature to experience all that Arizona has to offer. Recently, I have been re-studying oil painting techniques associated with the master painters of the Baroque and Impressionist eras. Doing this has helped to understand the foundations required for stronger, more lasting images. While in art school, the emphasis was on expression over technique. Traditional painting techniques were actively shunned or just not taught. It has been a joy to go back and learn those skills that have been traditionally passed on from one generation to the next. I earned a Bachelors of Fine Art from the University of Arizona in 1993 and then went on to get a Masters of Fine Art from the University of Delaware in 1998. Following which, I moved to Oregon, where I took a teaching position at Willamette University. After some time there, it seemed right to get back to Arizona, and here I am. I have a loving wife, Marla, and a wonderful son, Liam. When I am not in the studio, you can find me teaching art to high school students. Sometimes I even get to go golfing or take a hike in the desert. Please enjoy my original southwestern inspired paintings and contact me with any questions. Don't forget to follow me on Instagram and Facebook. All the best, Bruce Black, an Arizona artist and art teacher. |
