The musings of a landscape painter, art teacher, and art history lover
A few years ago, Marla, Liam, and I travelled to Monterey, California for a little vacation time. This was a great trip with beautiful views of the coastline, as well as a fun experience at cannery row. One of the highlights was renting electric bikes and riding the seventeen-mile road through Carmel and ending at Pebble Beach Golf Resort. To say it was stunning does not do that drive justice. The painting, Monterey Wharf, is one of the paintings that came from that trip. The light hitting the side of the pink wharf building, along with the old boards and dock poles, caught my eye and I snapped a couple pictures. As I was painting this scene, I was reminded of our amazing family vacation and it holds a place in my heart. It was also a lot of fun to try to get the surf rolling through the dock and pitching the small boat up.
I hope to get back to Monterey and Carmel someday. It is truly heaven!
